Colliculus is a training hub for psychiatrists, psychotherapists, counsellors, social workers, and psychologists, seeking to deepen their expertise in Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) and the use of Alexander Technique (AT) somatic interweaves. We are named after the midbrain integrative hub, the superior colliculus, which processes optical stimuli, orients attention, coordinates the eye and head movements, as well as projects into raw affective and defensive responses. We offer specialized advanced workshops and programs designed to train mental health professionals in observation skills. These skills help identify physical movements related to the head/body relationship as part of the DBR process, which is connected to brain circuitry involved in bracing against shock, armoring against affect, and armoring against core pain. This training deepens the practitioner’s attunement to their own process and, consequently, to their client's process. This is a cutting edge, somatic based methodology to healing trauma.

Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) was created by Frank Corrigan, MD, FRC Psych, and is a neuroscientifically directed psychotherapeutic approach for the treatment of traumatic experiences arising from adversity. It targets the underlying neurophysiological sequence in an ordered manner beginning with securing the orienting tension, clearing the shock, and processing the affective responses.

Here is where you can find more information about DBR, the history behind the development of DBR, and upcoming level 1, 2, and 3 trainings.

The Work of Frederick Matthius Alexander (1869-1955) leads to a profound ongoing inward and outward journey in exploring, realizing and celebrating the wonder of who and what we are.
Central to his work is the analysis and breaking down of ‘fixed ideas and
misconceptions’ - it is our ‘cherished’ and deeply attached to ideas and beliefs that that obscure our capacity to see ourselves and external reality as it is and prevents us from fulfilling our life potential.
The Work fathoms the depths of our deep brain - resulting in fundamental life long blockages being released that have been linked to moments of survival, trauma and the varieties of attachment disruptions. Such a release results in an ever widening but paradoxically stabilizing shift in our Global Life Perspective and will include foundational changes in
cognition.
Alexander wrote, “The first thing
that needs to be addressed to the pupil are their fixed ideas and misconceptions’
How you ‘conceive’ of something determines what subsequently follows in terms of a process.

Alexander’s Work is often referred to
as the Alexander ‘ Technique’ .
It is not uncommon for the work to be conceived of as being about Physical Posture and sitting ‘properly’
IF one conceives of the Work as being about posture then one proceeds to teach along these lines.

Alexander’s Work is often referred to
as the Alexander ‘ Technique’ .
It is not uncommon for the work to be conceived of as being about Physical Posture and sitting ‘properly’
IF one conceives of the Work as being about posture then one proceeds to teach along these lines.
Alexander himself defined his work as
“A method of sane and reasoned mental therapeutics’. And as such his work proceeded along these lines.
To his first trainees on his first training course in London in the 1930’s he is reported to have repeatedly said, ‘This is the most mental thing in the world - but not one of you want anything which is mental’
‘Our’ definition of the Alexander ‘Technique’ will always depend upon the subjective experiences of the pupil or teacher and the current and historic misconceptions that are operating in their systems which are obscuring, shaping and informing their perceptions of the Work and their world.
Through applying the principles of the Work and devoting time and energy into studying and developing the mental skills and disciplines required and then finally gaining a practical command of the work - we move closer and closer to Mr Alexander’s own understanding of what the work is.
The Work without doubt leads to a Constructive Conscious Control of the whole of our Potentiality enabling us to individuate, contribute to the lives of others and live a fulfilling life.

We are a group of experienced DBR/AT professionals dedicated to providing high-quality workshops that help clinicians develop new skills and achieve their personal and professional goals.

Our workshops are designed to meet the needs of individual clinicians. We believe in a hands-on, collaborative approach to learning, where participants are encouraged to actively engage with each other and with the material. Deepen your neuroscience knowledge, DBR skills, and learn how to integrate AT somatic interweaves to augment the DBR processing.

Our intensives are designed to be interactive and engaging. We use a variety of teaching methods, including theory lectures, live demonstrations, group discussions, facilitated practicums, and hands-on experiential changes to your head/body relationship facilitated by Martin Warner.
